About the Event

2020 DTA graduate Sam Strachan will share what it’s like to lead a theatre session exploring mental health in a Pupil Referral Unit, or a music workshop for young people with complex disabilities. Through playful exercises and discussion, participants will gain insight into a burgeoning Applied Arts career, supported by the sharing of contacts and advice on how to approach companies and apply for funding. This includes resources of introductory emails and Sam’s successful funding applications.

Are you uncertain about how to carve out a career in the arts? Are you a pioneer who wants to change the world? Are you a specialist actor, director or technician looking to diversify your practice? Or are you simply curious to know more about Applied Theatre? This workshop is for you. Come and join us!

Sam Strachan is an emerging practitioner who graduated from Drama and Theatre Arts in 2020. As well as delivering his own freelance projects, he works regularly with Open Theatre and Windswept Workshops. In summer 2020 he attended Emma Rice’s directing course at the School for Wise Children, and is currently receiving training from Odd Arts as part of his Developing Your Creative Practice project, funded by Arts Council England. At university he co-founded SquareEye Theatre to pursue directorial ambitions, and is currently focusing on developing a career in Applied Arts.
